peddai Who [sorta an intro]

bonjour!

i write here in the pseudonym peddai, about anything that urges me to write.  so far, all of these posts written here by me are in Tamil.

(in colloquial Tamil) peddai is at times a derogatory term meaning a ‘girl.’  In southern India it put downs women who are transgenders.  it spits at their faces’ degrading their sexuality and self respect; its thrown on them to belittle them.

every time as i pass such words, i substituted them with such famous lines  ♫♫ “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words don’t bother me…”

but in truth, they do bother and yes, they do hurt.  and i started to look for a remedy.

Like the word Bitch, when we turn the very words, which is used against us, by reclaiming its meaning, those words become so powerful, along with empowering and freeing our inferior selves.  this blog was started in October 2004 to practice such reclamation at least in writings.

last year, perhaps even before that, i lost the interest to even write.  the reasons are personal and political and there are no need to give many reasons.  a war-torn mind (no matter how far it settles) does not withdraw itself from the Memory in the prison shells of war.  it goes on to withdraw from life and its endeavors.  yet, it comes back in the realization that it isn’t any way in the war, rather  it just in a far Memory.

thus, i started back this year, hoping to write also in English, our Colonial Masters’ Language.

vanakkam everyone!
